WEEKEND SCHOLARS WILL ATTEND:
THE WATSONS GO TO BIRMINGHAM - 1963
Meet the Watsons of Flint, Michigan: Momma, Dad, little sister Joetta, big brother Byron and ten-year-old Kenny. When Byron can’t seem to stay out of trouble, the family piles into the “Brown Bomber” and drives south to visit strict Grandma Sands and toward a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights movement and Alabama history. Told with humor from a child’s perspective, this play celebrates the triumph of family over hate and racism. This stage adaption is based on the novel that won the Newbery and Coretta Scott King Honor Book awards and that is required reading for Huntsville City Schools.
